WATAF Honours ECOWAS President Touray For Advancing Regional Economic Integration
Regional cooperation remains a critical pillar for economic stability and sustainable growth in West Africa, especially as governments intensify efforts to strengthen domestic revenue generation and fiscal transparency across the sub-region.
The West African Tax Administrations Forum (WATAF) has honoured the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, for his visionary leadership and outstanding contributions to regional economic integration and development.
The recognition was presented on 20 May 2026 at the new ECOWAS headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria, during a ceremony that underscored the growing partnership between WATAF and ECOWAS in strengthening taxation and customs systems across the region.
According to WATAF, Dr. Touray’s leadership has continued to promote policies aimed at improving domestic revenue mobilisation, enhancing fiscal transparency and supporting sustainable economic growth within ECOWAS member states.
The honour also highlighted ongoing collaborative efforts between both institutions to deepen regional prosperity and reinforce economic cooperation among West African countries.
Observers say stronger tax administration and customs cooperation remain essential in addressing economic challenges, boosting government revenues and driving long-term regional development.
