UNIZIK Medical Centre, UNIZIK FM Forge Partnership To Boost Public Health Awareness

As preventive healthcare gains increasing attention in modern society, the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Medical Centre and UNIZIK FM are moving to strengthen public health education through strategic media collaboration.

The initiative was unveiled during a courtesy visit by the Director of Medical Services at the UNIZIK Medical Centre, Dr. Jane Ezeonu, to the management of UNIZIK FM, where both institutions explored partnership opportunities aimed at promoting health sensitisation and awareness within the university community and beyond.

Dr. Ezeonu explained that healthcare delivery has evolved beyond the treatment of illnesses to include preventive measures driven by continuous public enlightenment and healthy lifestyle advocacy.

She disclosed that the Medical Centre’s newly inaugurated Sensitisation Outreach Committee would spearhead campaigns on emerging health issues, healthy living practices, and the dangers linked to unhealthy consumption habits.

According to her, the proposed collaboration with UNIZIK FM would enable regular health enlightenment programmes designed to provide students, staff, and members of the public with vital health information.

Supporting the initiative, Comrade Enwere Okoye described the campaign as a timely intervention capable of empowering individuals with the knowledge needed to make healthier choices and prevent avoidable diseases.

Also speaking, Dr. Okoye Chikodili stressed the importance of educating the public on responsible lifestyle and consumption habits, while Dr. Uche Lucy, Head of the Clinic Unit, warned that many preventable illnesses and deaths are often caused by poor lifestyle decisions and inadequate health awareness.

Consultant Gynaecologist, Dr. Iferikigwe E.S., noted that the campaign requires collective support to achieve meaningful impact.

Responding, the Director of UNIZIK FM, Prof. Ifeoma Dunu, welcomed the initiative and assured the Medical Centre of the station’s full support in driving the advocacy.

She stated that UNIZIK FM has consistently championed public enlightenment and engagement on issues affecting health and development within and outside the university community.

“There is no way you can do this without the media. We are in for the advocacy, and I assure you that we are always here. It’s going to be a healthy partnership,” Prof. Dunu said.

The proposed collaboration is expected to strengthen access to credible health information and encourage preventive healthcare practices among the public.
