Power Sector Vandalism: NERC, ONSA Strategising To Protect Nigeria’s Electricity Assets
As repeated attacks on power infrastructure continue to disrupt electricity supply across Nigeria, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) are stepping up efforts to secure critical assets in the sector.
During a courtesy visit by the ONSA delegation to NERC, the Commission’s Chairman, Dr. Musiliu Oseni, stressed the need for stronger collaboration to tackle the growing menace of vandalism affecting the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).
Oseni commended ONSA for its role in protecting national assets, noting that improved synergy between both agencies would help safeguard electricity infrastructure and enhance power reliability nationwide.
Also speaking, the Director of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure Protection, AVM Enebong Effiom, underscored the importance of coordinated action in securing facilities within the power sector.
Key resolutions from the meeting included plans to establish a joint stakeholders’ forum to combat vandalism, develop a shared database for tracking assets and incidents, and create a reporting platform to speed up incident response, arrests, and prosecution of offenders.
