IGP Honours 17 PMF Officers Killed In Yobe Terror Attack

In a solemn reminder of the dangers faced daily by security personnel on Nigeria’s frontlines, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has honoured 17 Police Mobile Force (PMF) officers killed during a terrorist attack in Yobe State.

The officers lost their lives in the early hours of May 8, 2026, during an attack on the Nigerian Army Special Forces School in Buni Yadi, Gujba Local Government Area, while carrying out joint security operations alongside other agencies in the North-East.

Speaking at a memorial parade held on Tuesday at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, the IGP described the fallen officers as gallant heroes who paid the supreme sacrifice in defence of the nation.

Disu said the officers’ sacrifice reflected the highest level of patriotism and commitment to national service, noting that PMF personnel continue to battle terrorism and violent extremism under extremely difficult conditions.

“We want every Nigerian to feel, and to know in their hearts, that there are men and women in uniform who wake up every morning with one purpose: to serve, to protect, and if called upon, to give everything,” he stated.

The police chief also acknowledged the pain suffered by the families of the deceased officers, assuring them that the Nigeria Police Force would continue to support them and ensure the sacrifices of their loved ones are never forgotten.

Senior police officers, families of the slain personnel and other dignitaries attended the memorial parade to pay tribute to the fallen heroes.
