Road Safety Is Everyone’s Duty, Justice Nyesom-Wike Tells Nigerians
With road crashes continuing to claim lives across Nigeria, Honourable Justice Eberechi Suzzette Nyesom-Wike (JCA) has called for stronger public involvement in promoting road safety, insisting that saving lives on the nation’s highways should not be left to government agencies alone.
Justice Nyesom-Wike made the call during her investiture as an Honourary Special Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Abuja, where she urged Nigerians to move beyond concern and actively support efforts aimed at reducing accidents and improving road discipline.
She stressed that the fight against road crashes requires collective vigilance, responsibility, and commitment from all citizens, warning against risky behaviours that continue to endanger lives on Nigerian roads.
The ceremony, held under the FCT Sector Command, was presided over by the Zonal Commanding Officer RS7HQ, ACM Comfort Asom, who represented the Corps Marshal.
She described Special Marshals as key drivers of road safety advocacy and charged volunteers to uphold integrity, patriotism, and service.
The event, attended by notable Justices of the Court of Appeal and the National Coordinator of Special Marshals, Engr. Dr Usman Adaji, also highlighted FRSC’s plan to strengthen public engagement across the Federal Capital Territory.
Sector Commander, Corps Commander Tijani Iliyasu, said bringing influential personalities like Justice Nyesom-Wike into the Special Marshals scheme would help reshape public attitudes and improve compliance with traffic regulations.
Justice Nyesom-Wike, in her acceptance speech, called for a nationwide awakening to the dangers of road crashes, urging Nigerians to avoid all forms of unsafe road behaviour.
