Police, Immigration Close Ranks To Tackle Cross-Border Crime

In a country where porous borders continue to test national security, Nigeria’s top law enforcement agencies are tightening coordination to stay ahead of evolving threats.

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Tuesday paid a strategic visit to the Nigeria Immigration Service headquarters in Abuja, signalling a renewed push for stronger collaboration in border security and intelligence sharing.

During the visit, Disu underscored the urgency of seamless inter-agency cooperation in combating cross-border crimes, stressing that effective border control and real-time intelligence exchange are central to safeguarding the nation.

He called for deeper coordination, joint training, and improved operational synergy between security agencies.

Responding, the Comptroller-General of the NIS, Kemi Nanna Nandap, described the visit as a clear demonstration of commitment to national security.

She highlighted ongoing collaboration with the INTERPOL National Central Bureau, particularly in tackling transnational crime and strengthening border management systems.

The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its resolve to enhance inter-agency synergy, as both institutions move to reinforce Nigeria’s border security architecture amid growing security challenges.
