Eid Security Tightened: IGP Disu Orders Nationwide Tactical Deployment
As millions of Muslims mark Eid-el-Fitr, security agencies are moving swiftly to ensure the celebrations remain peaceful across Nigeria.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has extended warm felicitations to Muslim faithful on the successful completion of Ramadan, while ordering a nationwide deployment of tactical assets to safeguard lives and property during the festive period.
In a proactive move, the IGP directed Commissioners of Police and Tactical Commanders across all states and the Federal Capital Territory to implement robust security arrangements.
These include the strategic deployment of intelligence operatives, tactical teams, and the Special Intervention Squad to Eid prayer grounds and other critical infrastructure.
There will also be increased police presence along highways, motor parks, recreational centres, and public spaces to guarantee hitch-free celebrations.
The police chief further ordered heightened visibility policing, coordinated patrols, enhanced surveillance, and intelligence-led stop-and-search operations aimed at deterring criminal activities and ensuring rapid response to any threats.
While urging citizens to remain vigilant, IGP Disu called for public cooperation with security agencies and encouraged the prompt reporting of suspicious activities through designated emergency lines.
He wished Muslim faithful a peaceful and joyous Eid-el-Fitr, assuring Nigerians of the Police Force’s commitment to maintaining law and order throughout the celebrations.
