Faith, Unity and Security: IGP Disu Hosts Historic Interfaith Dinner For Officers
In a country where religious diversity often shapes national conversations, Nigeria’s police leadership is making a deliberate statement—unity within the Force is non-negotiable.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Wednesday hosted a historic interfaith Iftar and Lent dinner at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, bringing together officers of different faiths in a rare show of solidarity, mutual respect, and shared purpose.
The event, described as the first of its kind at the Force Headquarters, was aimed at fostering religious harmony, strengthening internal cohesion, and reinforcing discipline among personnel of the Nigeria Police Force.
Among dignitaries present were Senator Amos Yohanna of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs; Honourable Jafar Yakubu of the House Committee on Police Affairs; President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Mrs Oluwafumilola Disu; Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, Alhaji Mohammed Sheidu; retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Hakeem Odumosu; and Professor Imam Musa of the Ansar-ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, Abuja branch.
Speaking at the gathering, IGP Disu highlighted the spiritual significance of both Ramadan and Lent, describing them as seasons of reflection, sacrifice, and service.
He noted that while officers may differ in faith, they remain united by core values of discipline, compassion, and commitment to duty.
He urged Muslim faithful to embrace the virtues of peace, tolerance, and selflessness associated with Ramadan, while stressing that religious harmony within the Force is vital for professionalism and effective policing.
The Police Chief also reassured Nigerians of enhanced security nationwide, revealing that strategic deployments, increased surveillance, and proactive measures have been activated across commands to ensure a peaceful festive period.
The interfaith dinner not only underscored the importance of unity in diversity but also signalled a leadership approach anchored on inclusion, stability, and national security.
