Troops Repel Coordinated ISWAP Attacks On Multiple Military Bases In North-East

Nigeria’s ongoing fight against terrorism witnessed another intense confrontation as troops of Operation HADIN KAI successfully repelled coordinated attacks by suspected ISWAP fighters on several military locations across the North-East.

The attacks, which occurred on the night of Sunday, 8 March, and early hours of Monday, 9 March 2026, targeted military positions in Delwa, Goniri, Kukawa, Mainok and a troops’ harbour location deep inside the Sambisa Forest.

According to a statement by the Media Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the terrorists launched the assaults simultaneously from multiple directions in what appeared to be an attempt to overwhelm the troops.

However, the soldiers stood their ground and mounted strong defensive operations, supported by reinforcements and the Air Component of the Joint Task Force.

“The terrorists were met with overwhelming resistance and were forced to withdraw after suffering significant casualties,” the statement said.

Troops also recovered several weapons abandoned by the fleeing fighters, including two PKT machine guns, six AK-47 rifles, eight RPG bombs, four mortar bombs and assorted ammunition.

Although parts of the defensive perimeters in Goniri and Kukawa were briefly breached and some structures and vehicles damaged during the intense gun battles, the military confirmed that all the locations remain firmly under the control of Operation HADIN KAI troops.

Ground forces, backed by air support, have since launched follow-up exploitation operations, while cordon and search missions are ongoing in nearby communities where wounded terrorists were reportedly seeking refuge.

The military, however, disclosed that some soldiers, including a senior officer in Kukawa, lost their lives during the engagements.

Their sacrifice, the statement noted, underscores the bravery and commitment of Nigerian troops in the ongoing effort to restore lasting peace and stability in the North-East.
