IWD 2026: Balm for the Bruised Foundation Calls For Stronger Support Systems For Women
Behind many success stories of women are often untold struggles, emotional wounds, domestic abuse, and social pressures that remain largely hidden from public view.
As the world marks International Women’s Day 2026, the Balm for the Bruised Foundation has called for stronger support systems to protect and empower women while restoring dignity to those facing emotional and psychological trauma.
Founder of the foundation, Princess‑Ekwi Edith Ajide, said many women silently carry deep emotional scars caused by domestic violence, cultural pressures, economic hardship and substance abuse within families.
She emphasised that empowerment must go beyond advocacy, stressing the need for deliberate investment in education, mental health support, economic opportunities and stronger protection against gender-based violence.
“Many women are silently bruised by life’s circumstances. Our mission is to restore hope, rebuild confidence and provide support systems that help women and families heal and thrive,” Ajide stated.
The foundation urged government agencies, civil society organisations, community leaders and the media to strengthen collaboration in tackling the root causes of abuse, addiction and inequality affecting women.
It also encouraged women to support one another, speak out against injustice and seek help whenever they face abuse or emotional distress.
The Balm for the Bruised Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to advocacy, awareness campaigns and community engagement initiatives aimed at supporting survivors of abuse, promoting mental wellness and empowering vulnerable women across Nigeria.
