Taraba Governor’s Defection Signals Fresh Political Realignment As APC Welcomes Kefas In Jalingo

Such a moment played out in Jalingo on Wednesday as the All Progressives Congress (APC) rolled out the red carpet for the Executive Governor of Taraba State, Agbu Kefas.
Led by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) joined Vice President Kashim Shettima, APC governors, members of the National Assembly leadership, and other key stakeholders to formally receive Governor Agbu Kefas into the ruling party.
The colourful reception, held in Jalingo, marked a significant political milestone for Taraba State, signalling what party leaders described as a new chapter of collaboration with the Federal Government and the APC-led centre.
Speaking at the event, APC leaders described Kefas’ decision as a strategic boost to the party’s growing influence in the North-East, while assuring Taraba citizens of inclusive governance, accelerated development, and stronger alignment with national priorities.
Vice President Shettima hailed the defection as a reflection of the APC’s expanding appeal, noting that the party remains committed to strengthening democracy through unity, performance, and people-focused leadership.
For Governor Kefas, the move was presented as one driven by the interest of Taraba State, with assurances that the partnership with the APC would translate into tangible dividends for residents across the state.
