Soludo Goes Back To School As Uga Boys’ Secondary School Turns 50

Fifty years after it first opened its doors, Uga Boys’ Secondary School (UBSS), Uga, on Wednesday became a living reminder of how education can shape destiny, an insight powerfully embodied by one of its most famous products.

Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, returned to his alma mater on December 30, 2025, to celebrate the school’s golden jubilee, drawing admiration when he appeared in his old-style secondary school uniform.

The symbolic gesture sparked excitement among students, teachers, alumni and guests, instantly bridging generations.

The visit was more than nostalgia. It underscored Soludo’s personal journey through the public school system and his belief in education as a driver of social and economic transformation.

UBSS, located in Aguata Local Government Area, is among the public secondary schools being upgraded into smart schools under the state’s ongoing education reforms.

The initiative includes digital learning tools, improved infrastructure, teacher training and curriculum enhancement, aimed at repositioning public schools to global standards.

Over the past five decades, UBSS has produced professionals and leaders across different sectors.

The anniversary celebration offered alumni a moment to reconnect, reflect on the school’s legacy and renew their commitment to its future.

Many described the Governor’s return in uniform as a powerful symbol linking the past, present and future of education in Anambra State, a proud moment for the Uga community and Ndi Anambra as a whole.
