At a time when Nigerians increasingly link well-being to national progress, the Federal Government has restated that health is not just a social service but a powerful driver of unity, productivity and stability.

This position was underscored in Abuja during an advocacy visit by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, to the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, where the Coordinating Minister, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, said the Tinubu administration has deliberately placed health at the centre of governance under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Professor Pate described health as the nation’s most critical asset, noting that no sector can function optimally without a healthy population.

He outlined ongoing reforms focused on prevention, stronger public health systems and expanded access to care, particularly for the poorest Nigerians.

According to him, thousands of primary healthcare centres have been revitalised nationwide, while millions have accessed services in recent months alongside large-scale retraining of frontline health workers.

He also highlighted investments in oncology services, expanded health insurance coverage and a renewed push for medical industrialisation, aimed at boosting local pharmaceutical production and reducing dependence on imports.

On health security, he said the government has strengthened epidemic preparedness, successfully containing outbreaks and improving surveillance in response to emerging threats.

Speaking earlier, Mr Idris said the visit was aimed at deepening collaboration and ensuring Nigerians are better informed about reforms in the health sector.

He stressed that effective communication remains vital to governance, assuring that his ministry would intensify public awareness to promote positive health-seeking behaviour and national cohesion.

The Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Iziaq Adekunle Salako, added that while many health achievements are less visible than physical infrastructure, their impact is far-reaching, citing mass immunisation and improved service delivery.

Both ministries agreed that sustained collaboration and clear public engagement are essential to consolidating gains and restoring confidence in Nigeria’s health system.
