Soludo Debunks Obiano Death Rumour, Calls For Responsible Journalism
In an age where misinformation travels faster than truth, Anambra State was briefly shaken on Friday by a wave of false reports claiming that former Governor, Chief Willie Maduaburochukwu Obiano, had died in a London hospital.
Within hours, the State Government moved swiftly to set the records straight.
Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, has categorically dismissed the speculation, confirming that Chief Obiano is “alive and well.” The Governor disclosed that he personally spoke with his predecessor and found him in good health.
In a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Mr Christian Aburime, Governor Soludo condemned the rumour as “wicked and irresponsible,” expressing deep concern over the increasing recklessness of unverified reports circulating online.
He urged media practitioners, particularly digital publishers, to uphold journalistic ethics by verifying information through official channels before rushing to publish, warning that such baseless stories erode public trust.
The Government has called on the public to disregard the trending misinformation and remain assured that the former governor, fondly known as Akpokuedike, is hale and hearty.
Governor Soludo also extended warm wishes to Chief Obiano, praying for his continued strength, peace, and a long, fulfilling life.
