Armed Forces Record Major Gains Against Terrorists, Oil Thieves In September – Defence Headquarters
In a month marked by intensified military activity across Nigeria, the Armed Forces say they have recorded major operational gains in the fight against terrorism, banditry, and oil theft.
This was disclosed by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Markus Kangye, during the monthly press briefing on ongoing military operations for September 2025 in Abuja.
Kangye said that troops under various Joint Task Forces operating nationwide neutralised dozens of terrorists and arrested over 450 criminals, including bandits, extremists, and their collaborators.
He noted that 39 insurgents surrendered, while 180 kidnapped civilians were rescued during the month-long operations.
According to him, the forces also recovered 63 arms, 4,475 rounds of ammunition, and 294 other items, including grenades, improvised explosive device (IED) materials, and vehicles used for criminal activities.
Highlighting achievements in the South-South region, the Major General revealed that Operation Delta Safe thwarted oil theft worth over ₦112 million, destroying 41 illegal refining sites and recovering thousands of litres of stolen crude and petroleum products.
In the North-East, troops of Operation Hadin Kai sustained pressure on Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters, killing several insurgents and disrupting their logistics networks in Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe States.
Similarly, Operation FANSAN YAMMA in the North-West and Operation ENDURING PEACE in the North-Central led to the arrest of dozens of terrorists and the rescue of kidnapped victims.
Operations in the South-East under Operation UDO KA also yielded results, with troops killing one terrorist and arresting four others in Anambra and Imo States, while recovering weapons and IEDs.
Major General Kangye reaffirmed the military’s commitment to transparency, professionalism, and adherence to the rules of engagement, assuring that the safety of civilians remains a top priority.
“Our gallant troops, in collaboration with other security agencies and hybrid forces, remain resolute in restoring peace and stability to every troubled part of the country,” he stated.
