INEC Promotes 471 Junior Staff, Reaffirms Commitment To Merit and Welfare

With Nigeria preparing for major off-cycle elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has moved to boost staff morale, approving the promotion of 471 junior staff across its offices nationwide.

The decision was taken at the Commission’s weekly meeting on Thursday, chaired by its Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu.

The session also reviewed preparations for the forthcoming Anambra governorship election, the FCT Area Council election, and party primaries ahead of the Ekiti and Osun governorship polls.

According to a statement by National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, 515 staff were considered for the promotion exercise.

Out of these, 214 advanced to Grade Level 07, 134 to GL06, 106 to GL05 and 17 to GL04, based on recommendations from the Appointment, Promotion and Disciplinary Committee.

The promotion of junior staff marks the conclusion of the first phase, with the senior staff exercise already underway.

INEC stressed that staff promotion is a routine exercise anchored on merit, adding that it remains committed to the welfare and professional growth of its workforce.

The Commission urged staff to rededicate themselves to service, particularly in delivering credible elections.
