NAF Chief Stresses Fiscal Discipline As Key To National Security
The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, has emphasised that fiscal discipline and accountability remain central to Nigeria’s national security and the operational readiness of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF).
Speaking at the opening of the 2025 NAF Finance Conference and Retreat in Ajia-Ibadan, Oyo State, on Thursday, Air Marshal Abubakar said the prudent management of resources was not only an administrative necessity but also a moral duty.
“When resources are managed with integrity and prudence, the NAF is better positioned to maintain readiness, train and equip personnel, and execute operational directives without financial encumbrances,” he stated.
The two-day retreat, themed “Sustainable Resource Management for Effective Air Power Delivery,” is designed to strengthen financial practices within the Service.
Delivering the keynote address, the Director General of the Budget Office of the Federation, represented by his Special Adviser, Dr Samuel Omenka, urged the NAF to deepen transparency and optimise resources in the face of competing national priorities.
Air Vice Marshal Uche Nwagwu, Chief of Accounts and Budget, also underscored the critical role of finance officers in translating every naira into operational capability and national security.
Dignitaries at the event included senior NAF officers, finance experts, and Oyo State officials. The CAS also commissioned the NAF Finance Specialty Hall of Fame during the retreat.
