IOM Deputy DG Commends Nigeria’s Peace Efforts, Visits Defence Chief

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has praised Nigeria’s efforts in peacebuilding and reintegration, describing its Operation Safe Corridor as a model now expanding beyond the North East.

Speaking during a visit to the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, in Abuja, IOM’s Deputy Director General of Operations, Mrs Ogechi Daniels, commended the Nigerian Government for creating an enabling environment for migration and reintegration programmes.

She affirmed IOM’s readiness to deploy experts in Disarmament, Demobilisation, Reintegration, and Reconciliation (DDRR) to new areas, including Zamfara State.

Mrs Daniels also highlighted IOM’s technical support in border management, early warning systems, and disaster risk reduction. She revealed that IOM, in partnership with the UK Development Office, has launched Phase 4 of its rehabilitation and community-based reintegration programme.

General Musa, while welcoming the IOM delegation, acknowledged the organisation’s long-standing partnership with Nigeria and pledged the Armed Forces’ continued collaboration in promoting peace and stability.

The visit reinforces the shared commitment of Nigeria’s military and IOM to tackle insecurity, displacement, and migration challenges while fostering sustainable development.
