Rugby Fever Hits Kano As 2025 Kano 7s Welcomes National Team Coach Steve Lewis
Kano is set for a thrilling weekend of rugby as iTry Rugby Nigeria, through its Kano State Youth Rugby Development Programme, hosts the 2025 Kano 7s Tournament this Saturday, 16th August, at the Rugby Pitch, Racecourse.
The event will feature Nigeria’s National Rugby Team Head Coach, Steve Lewis (USA), as Guest of Honour a presence organisers say will inspire young players and spotlight grassroots rugby’s role in shaping the nation’s sporting future.
Teams from Kano and Zaria will battle for glory, but Chairman of iTry Rugby Nigeria Kano State Programme, Martin Crawford OBE, says the tournament is about more than the scoreline. “It’s a celebration of community, talent, and the values of sportsmanship, discipline, and teamwork,” he said.
Part of Nigeria’s largest youth rugby development programme, the Kano 7s promises a day of fast-paced action, family fun, and the chance for fans to meet their rugby heroes with free entry for all.
