Ogun State is poised for a thrilling weekend of rugby action as it hosts the much-anticipated Golden 7s Rugby Tournament this Saturday, 26 July 2025, at the iconic Recreation Club in GRA, Ota.

Fast becoming Nigeria’s rising hub for sporting excellence, the state will welcome a dynamic mix of school teams, rugby academies, and women’s clubs from across the Southwest for a day filled with speed, skill, and community spirit.

Organised by the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation in partnership with grassroots stakeholders, the one-day event shines a spotlight on youth development and gender inclusion through the fast-paced game of rugby sevens.

The tournament will feature fierce competition across multiple categories including senior boys, junior boys, junior girls, and women’s club teams.

Fans can expect explosive clashes between rugby powerhouses like Cowrie RFC, AJ Sharks, and Golden Sharks in the women’s division, while schools like New Era, S.T.C, and Iganmode Grammar School are set to lock horns in the boys’ T1 schools category.

Speaking ahead of the event, Nigeria Rugby Development Officer and tournament host, Hussain Shakirat Wuraola, said:

“We’re excited to host the Golden 7s as a platform to build confidence in our youth, promote teamwork, discipline, and leadership through sport. It’s not just about competition, it’s about creating impact and inspiring the next generation of rugby stars.”

Beyond the tackles and tries, the Golden 7s is making a bold statement about inclusion, opportunity, and community pride.
