In what promises to be a landmark event for Nigeria’s diplomatic and security landscape, the Diplomatic Correspondents Association of Nigeria (DICAN) is set to host its first-ever Diplomatic/Security International Conference on Wednesday, 23 July 2025, in Abuja.

Themed “Nigeria’s 4Ds Foreign Policy Strategy Amidst Global Security Challenges, Strategic Misperceptions, and the Age of Disinformation,” the high-level gathering will explore how diplomacy, intelligence, and the media can work in synergy to strengthen national and global stability.

Expected at the conference are key government officials, diplomats, security chiefs, scholars, and civil society actors. Among the top dignitaries billed to speak are the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar; the Ministers of Defence and Interior; EU Ambassador Gautier Mignot; and Egypt’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Mohamed Fouad.

As part of the event, 20 eminent Nigerians and institutions will be recognised with the prestigious DICAN Award of Excellence for their contributions to peacebuilding, diplomacy, and national development. Notable recipients include:

Former President Goodluck Jonathan, for his peace efforts across Africa;

NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Rtd.), for transformative anti-drug reforms;

Allen Onyema, CEO of Air Peace, for supporting national diplomacy through aviation;

The Egyptian Embassy in Nigeria, for consistent diplomatic engagement.

DICAN Chairman, Idehai Frederick, described the event as a bold step in fostering meaningful collaboration between security experts, diplomats, and the media. “This is more than a conference,” he said. “It is a strategic platform for recalibrating Nigeria’s foreign policy in an increasingly uncertain world.”

Founded as a professional body for journalists covering foreign affairs, DICAN hopes this groundbreaking dialogue will strengthen Nigeria’s global standing and deepen understanding of its 4D Foreign Policy Strategy -Democracy, Development, Demography, and Diaspora.
