For many rural families in northern Nigeria, livestock are more than possessions, they are a source of livelihood, food security and financial stability. Recovering stolen animals can therefore mean restoring hope to victims of banditry.
Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recovered 126 rustled livestock and arrested several suspects during separate intelligence-led operations in Bakori and Batsari Local Government Areas of Katsina State.
Military sources said troops, working with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), ambushed suspected terrorists at Yankwani village in Bakori LGA after receiving intelligence on the movement of rustled animals.
The suspects reportedly fled into nearby bushes, abandoning 83 cows and 43 sheep, which were later handed over to the Chairman of the Peace Keeping Committee in Bakori, Alhaji Tijjani Mohammed, for identification and return to their rightful owners.
In a separate operation, troops teamed up with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to raid criminal hideouts in Wagin, Tundu Mobi and Chadawaki communities in Batsari LGA, leading to the arrest of several suspects.
Security operatives also recovered a locally made firearm loaded with five cartridges, while all suspects and exhibits were handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation.
The operations form part of ongoing efforts by Operation FANSAN YAMMA and partner agencies to curb terrorism, banditry and other criminal activities across Nigeria’s North-West.
