Police Arrest Three Over Machete Attack On Bauchi Student, Launch Manhunt For Others
Swift police intervention has led to the arrest of three suspects following a brutal machete attack on an 18-year-old secondary school student in Bauchi State, as authorities intensify efforts to apprehend other members of the suspected gang still on the run.
The Bauchi State Police Command said the student of Government Day Secondary School, Miri, was attacked on 15 July while returning home in Birindi Sabon Kauran Lafiyari.
According to the police, two armed assailants intercepted him, questioned him about his movements, and one of them inflicted a deep machete cut on his left hand before fleeing.
The victim was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, where he is receiving treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.
Following investigations, police operatives arrested Aliyu Abubakar, 23, Mubarak Muhammad, 18, and Salisu Abubakar, also known as Ustas, 22, all from Wuntin Dada, Bauchi.
Dangerous weapons were also recovered, while three other suspects identified as Ismail, also known as Matsala, Abba Sarkin Fawa and Sagir, also known as Kwalba, remain at large.
Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu condemned the attack and directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.
He also ordered a full-scale manhunt for the fleeing suspects and urged residents to provide useful information that could aid their arrest.
