Troops Foil Kidnap Bid, Rescue Eight Victims In Zamfara
A rapid military intervention has thwarted another kidnap attempt in Zamfara State, underscoring the continued pressure on armed groups operating across the North-West.
Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued eight kidnapped victims after foiling a kidnap attempt during a fierce gun battle with armed terrorists in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The operation, carried out by Combat Team 2 of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Kaura Namoda, followed credible intelligence received at about 8:30 p.m. on 14 July about an ongoing abduction at Ungwan Rogo community.
The troops swiftly deployed to the area and engaged the terrorists in a firefight, forcing the assailants to retreat under sustained military pressure.
Security sources said the fleeing terrorists abandoned the eight victims and two vehicles, all of which were recovered by the troops. The victims were rescued unharmed.
Military sources added that troops have sustained aggressive patrols across the area to maintain dominance, deny terrorists freedom of movement and prevent further attacks on surrounding communities.
