Troops Arrest Corrections Officer Over Alleged Arms Trafficking In Enugu
The battle against illegal arms proliferation in Nigeria’s South-East has taken a significant turn with the arrest of a senior corrections officer allegedly linked to an arms trafficking syndicate.
Troops of Operation UDO KA arrested Assistant Superintendent of Corrections, Ekweme Clement Onyebuchi, during a follow-up operation at Okpara Square, Independence Layout, Enugu State.
Security sources said the operation was conducted by troops of the 82 Division Garrison alongside personnel of the Division Provost Group, following investigations into the arrest of suspected arms dealers on 30 June.
Two US-made pistols, two rounds of 9mm Luger ammunition and a vehicle were reportedly recovered during the operation.
Preliminary investigations allegedly linked the suspect to a syndicate involved in the illegal sale of arms and ammunition to suspected criminal elements.
The suspect and recovered exhibits remain in military custody as investigations continue to uncover the network and activities of the alleged arms trafficking syndicate.
The operation forms part of sustained security efforts to dismantle illegal arms supply networks and curb the proliferation of weapons across the South-East.
