Forum Of National Youth Leaders Gives South Africans July Deadline To Leave Nigeria

An ultimatum issued by a coalition of youth political leaders has heightened concerns over possible diplomatic tensions between Nigeria and South Africa amid renewed allegations of hostility towards Nigerians living in the southern African nation.
The Forum of National Youth Leaders of all Political Parties in Nigeria has given South Africans living in Nigeria until the end of July 2026 to leave the country, citing what it described as persistent attacks and harassment of Nigerians in South Africa.
Speaking at a press conference on xenophobia, the group alleged that the South African government had failed to adequately address repeated incidents targeting Nigerians and other Africans, arguing that the attacks amount to “Afrophobia” rather than xenophobia.
The forum recalled Nigeria’s historic support for South Africa during the anti-apartheid struggle, including diplomatic backing, financial contributions and the establishment of the Southern Africa Relief Fund, saying the sacrifices made by Nigerians had not been reciprocated.
Chairman of the forum and National Youth Leader of APGA, Hon. Comrade Eze Onyebuchi Chukwu, expressed dissatisfaction with what he described as the continued intimidation of Nigerians in South Africa.
He claimed that Nigerians had been subjected to harassment, threats and attacks, prompting the group’s decision to issue the ultimatum.
The forum warned that South Africans residing in Nigeria should leave by the end of July and urged authorities to take the concerns seriously.
South African authorities have not publicly responded to the forum’s statement.
Meanwhile, Nigeria continues to evacuate its citizens.
