Recognition is most meaningful when it celebrates quiet dedication, and that was the case as Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, received the Silent Hero in Management Award at the 8th Silent Heroes Awards Abuja 2026.
Receiving the honour, Ike described the award as a tribute to the resilience, professionalism and selfless service of journalists who work behind the scenes to uphold responsible journalism and strengthen the profession.
She said the recognition would inspire her to redouble efforts in promoting journalists’ welfare, ethical reporting, capacity building and unity within the union, while reaffirming that journalism must remain guided by truth, fairness and public interest despite growing challenges such as misinformation and insecurity.
The NUJ FCT Chairman stressed that the Council’s achievements were products of teamwork, acknowledging the contributions of members, executive officers, chapel leaders, veterans, strategic partners, mentors and her family.
She dedicated the award to journalists across Nigeria who continue to serve courageously under difficult conditions and commended the organisers for recognising individuals whose contributions often go unnoticed.
