Troops Foil Terror Attack In Sokoto, Recover Military Uniforms And Heavy Weapon
An intelligence-led military operation has thwarted what could have been another deadly attack on vulnerable communities in Nigeria’s North-West, underscoring the growing importance of proactive counter-terrorism efforts.
Troops of the 8 Division Garrison, Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled a planned terrorist attack in Jangeru Village, Shinkafi Local Government Area of Sokoto State, recovering a heavy weapon, ammunition, military uniforms and other items linked to criminal operations.
Acting on credible intelligence, the troops laid an ambush at Kwanar Jollof and engaged the advancing terrorists in a fierce gun battle. Overwhelmed by superior firepower, the terrorists abandoned their mission and fled the area.
Items recovered from the scene included a PKT assault weapon, ammunition, two motorcycles, chains suspected to have been used for restraining kidnapped victims, and eight pairs of military uniforms believed to have been intended for impersonating security personnel.
Security analysts say the seizure of the uniforms may have prevented future attacks in which unsuspecting civilians could have been deceived by terrorists posing as legitimate security operatives.
Military authorities described the operation as another success for the intelligence-driven strategy of Operation FANSAN YAMMA and reiterated their commitment to sustaining pressure on terrorist and bandit groups across the region.
