Agunechemba Neutralises Three Suspected Terrorists, Recovers Weapons In Anambra
A sustained crackdown on criminal gangs in Anambra State has yielded another breakthrough, with security operatives neutralising three suspected terrorists linked to a series of violent attacks and kidnappings across the state.
The operation, carried out on Monday night by the Agunechemba security outfit in collaboration with the police, targeted a notorious gang operating around the Isuofia-Igboukwu axis of Aguata Local Government Area.
According to a statement signed by the Media Publicity Secretary, Agunechemba, Comrade Nweke Nweke, the suspects had been disguising themselves in federal security uniforms and were allegedly involved in several high-profile crimes, including an attack on the convoy of the Chief of Staff to Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
Acting on intelligence, security operatives tracked the gang while they were reportedly robbing residents.
The suspects attempted to escape but were intercepted after operatives sealed off exit routes across the area.
A gun battle ensued, leading to the death of three gang members, while others reportedly fled with gunshot wounds.
Authorities said no casualties were recorded among the security personnel.
Items recovered from the scene included a Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG), AK-47 rifles, other weapons, a white Hilux van allegedly used for criminal operations, charms, handbags and other incriminating materials.
Officials described the operation as a major victory in ongoing efforts to restore security across Anambra South Senatorial District and other parts of the state.
