Security Summit: Isiguzo Applauds Security Agencies, Urges Responsible Media Coverage

As Nigeria grapples with evolving security challenges, former President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Chris Isiguzo, has called for balanced reporting and stronger collaboration between the media and security agencies to enhance public understanding of security realities.

Speaking at the National Security Summit organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Abuja, Isiguzo commended security agencies for their efforts in protecting lives and maintaining stability across the country despite difficult operating conditions.

He noted that the successful hosting of the summit in the nation’s capital was itself evidence of the commitment and sacrifices being made daily by security personnel.

The former NUJ President urged journalists to exercise caution and fairness in reporting security issues, stressing that security operatives are ordinary Nigerians, fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, sons and daughters working tirelessly under challenging circumstances.

While acknowledging the need for accountability, Isiguzo said security personnel deserve encouragement alongside constructive criticism, adding that public confidence is vital to effective security operations.

He also advocated regular interactions between heads of security agencies and media executives, arguing that such engagements would foster mutual understanding, improve information sharing and provide journalists with deeper insights into the complexities of security management.

The summit brought together media practitioners, security stakeholders and policymakers to discuss strategies for strengthening national security and promoting responsible journalism.
