Archbishop Kawas Receives Global Peace Honour In Washington

At a time when the world faces growing divisions and conflicts, Nigerian cleric and humanitarian, Archbishop Leonard Bature Kawas, has been recognised on the global stage for his commitment to peacebuilding and interfaith dialogue.

The founder of Harvest World Ministries was appointed an Ambassador for Peace by the Universal Peace Federation (UPF) during a high-profile ceremony held in Washington, D.C., on 20 June 2026.

The event brought together government officials, religious leaders, business executives and entertainment personalities from across the world to promote stronger cooperation in advancing peace and community development.

The appointment acknowledges Archbishop Kawas’ longstanding efforts in reconciliation, social development and fostering harmony among diverse faith communities.

Speaking after receiving the honour, Archbishop Kawas described peace as more than the absence of conflict.

“Peace is the presence of justice, dialogue and hope. I accept this responsibility with humility and renewed determination to work for the common good,” he said.

President of the Universal Peace Federation, Amb. Dr Michael Jenkins, commended the new appointees for their service to humanity and urged them to translate shared values into practical initiatives that uplift communities.

With the recognition, Archbishop Kawas joins a global network of peace advocates supporting diplomacy, education, youth empowerment and grassroots programmes aimed at promoting sustainable peace and social cohesion.

The ceremony concluded with a renewed commitment by participants to strengthen partnerships across faiths, governments and sectors in addressing contemporary social challenges.
