Troops Launch Major Offensive In Katsina After General’s Killing, Destroy Terrorist Hideouts

The killing of a retired military general by bandits has triggered a fresh security offensive in Katsina State, with troops moving aggressively to dismantle terrorist networks and restore confidence in affected communities.

Troops of Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA have launched Operation CLEAN SWEEP III, a targeted military campaign in Matazu Local Government Area and neighbouring communities following the abduction and death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar.

According to military authorities, the operation commenced on 14 June 2026 and has already recorded significant gains.

Troops carried out intelligence-led raids, fighting patrols, cordon-and-search operations and clearance missions across identified criminal hideouts.

The military said several terrorist enclaves were discovered and cleared in the Adua, Nasarawa and Karaduwa areas around the Dikkawa Hills, while logistics bases and life-support structures used by the criminals were destroyed.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA noted that the offensive is being conducted in collaboration with other security agencies and local stakeholders, with the aim of tracking down those responsible for the late general’s death, dismantling criminal networks and improving security across the region.

The task force reassured residents that troops would sustain pressure on terrorists and bandits until operational objectives are fully achieved and urged members of the public to provide credible information to aid ongoing operations.
