NDLEA Intercepts Massive Opioid Haul In Taraba, Arrests 75-Year-Old Drug Dealer In Ebonyi

As Nigeria’s battle against illicit drugs intensifies, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have recorded major breakthroughs across several states, intercepting large consignments of opioids and arresting suspected traffickers, including a 75-year-old man and four notorious female drug dealers.

The biggest seizure was recorded in Taraba State, where NDLEA operatives intercepted a truck loaded with building materials travelling from Onitsha, Anambra State, to Jalingo.

Acting on intelligence, officers discovered a huge cache of concealed drugs beneath the cargo and arrested 22-year-old Buhari Abdullahi.

Recovered items included 320,840 capsules of tramadol, 600 ampoules of pentazocine injection, 4,500 rohypnol tablets, and 299 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup.

In Ebonyi State, operatives arrested 75-year-old Okebe Samuel in Okposi with 300 grams of skunk reportedly packaged for retail distribution to youths in the community.

The agency also dismantled a drug enclave in Umulolo, Orlu, Imo State, where 32-year-old Chioma Okeke was arrested with eight kilograms of skunk.

In Edo State, NDLEA raids across notorious drug hotspots in Benin City led to the arrest of four suspected traffickers, including three women, while officers in Kano arrested 19-year-old Saifullahi Lawan with 38 kilograms of skunk.

In Gombe, another suspect, Ugwu Sabastine Ifebuchi, was apprehended with 15,000 capsules of tramadol.

NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended officers involved in the operations, stressing that the agency remains committed to dismantling drug trafficking networks across the country regardless of age, gender or concealment tactics.

The agency also continued its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitisation campaigns in schools across Oyo, Lagos, Anambra and Kano states as part of efforts to curb drug abuse through public education.
