As Nigeria continues to grapple with rising energy demands, investments in transmission infrastructure are increasingly being seen as critical to improving electricity supply and strengthening grid stability across the country.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria has commissioned a new 300MVA 330/132kV power transformer at its Katampe 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation in Abuja, significantly expanding the facility’s operational capacity.

With the addition of the new transformer, the substation’s capacity has risen from 450MVA to 750MVA, providing more power for the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company to distribute to consumers within Abuja and surrounding areas.

Speaking during the event, General Manager (Transmission), Abuja Region, Engr. Musa Shuaibu, said the installation reflects TCN’s commitment to the continuous expansion of Nigeria’s transmission network.

According to him, the project will support increased power delivery, improve grid stability and enhance electricity supply to distribution load centres nationwide.

Shuaibu further explained that the project was executed under the TCN-World Bank collaborative initiative aimed at rehabilitating and expanding the nation’s transmission infrastructure.

The development is expected to improve power reliability in the Federal Capital Territory and support growing energy demands from residential, commercial and industrial consumers.
