ECOWAS Honours Nigerian, Ghanaian, Senegalese Troops For Peace Mission In Guinea-Bissau
In a region where political stability remains critical to democratic growth, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has honoured troops serving in Guinea-Bissau for their role in sustaining peace and security.
The ECOWAS Stabilisation Support Mission in Guinea-Bissau (ESSMGB) on 14 May 2026 held a combined Medal Presentation Parade for Ghanaian, Nigerian and Senegalese contingents, alongside selected staff officers at the Force Headquarters.
The ceremony recognised the dedication, sacrifice and professionalism of the troops in supporting ECOWAS’ peacekeeping and political stabilisation efforts in the West African nation.
A delegation for the Medals Day celebration, including a reconnaissance team for GHANCOY 5 from Ghana led by Director General Military Records, Brigadier General Michael Kwami, attended the event.
Officials said the medals symbolise appreciation for the personnel’s commitment to regional peace, unity and democratic stability in Guinea-Bissau.
