Police Crack Down On Kidnap Gangs, Recover Arms and Stolen Vehicles in Nationwide Sting

In a renewed push against rising insecurity, the Nigeria Police Force has recorded a string of high-impact arrests and recoveries, signalling a more aggressive intelligence-led approach to crime fighting across several states.

At a press briefing in Abuja, the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, revealed that operatives of the Special Tactical Squad (STS) dismantled multiple criminal networks in the first quarter of 2026, with operations spanning Kaduna, Nasarawa, Plateau, Taraba and the Federal Capital Territory.

Among the major breakthroughs was the arrest of three suspected armed robbers, including a dismissed soldier accused of impersonation to evade capture.

The operation led to the recovery of ten stolen vehicles of various brands.

In a separate raid, four banditry suspects were apprehended with AK-47 rifles, ammunition and a locally fabricated pistol.

The police also intensified efforts against kidnapping syndicates.

Two suspects were arrested over the abduction of a victim in Nasarawa State, where a ransom had been demanded, while six others linked to a notorious gang operating from the Kaduna forests were captured.
Some kidnapped victims were rescued during these operations, though efforts continue to locate others still in captivity.

In Plateau-related investigations, a suspect accused of providing logistical support to bandits was tracked and arrested in Abuja, highlighting the expanding reach of intelligence operations.

Meanwhile, in Taraba State, fleeing suspects abandoned an AK-47 rifle and ammunition during a police mop-up operation.

The crackdown also exposed economic sabotage, with two suspects arrested for transporting vandalised railway materials valued at over ₦400 million, concealed in a trailer to avoid detection.

Police authorities say these operations underscore a firm commitment to dismantling organised crime and strengthening national security, while urging the public to continue providing timely information to aid ongoing investigations.
