Horror In Amichi: Man Allegedly Kills Cousin, Joins Search To Cover Crime For Eight Months
In a chilling reminder that danger can sometimes lurk within trusted circles, a murder case disguised as a missing person’s search has been uncovered in Anambra State.
Operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) under the Anambra State Police Command have arrested a 35-year-old man, Chukwudalu Ezeani, for allegedly killing his cousin and concealing the crime for months.
The suspect is accused of murdering 52-year-old Chinedu Ezeani on 1 August 2025 at his residence in Afube Village, Amichi, in Nnewi South Local Government Area.
According to police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the victim had initially been declared missing, prompting a community-wide search in which the suspect reportedly participated.
However, what began as a disappearance case took a dramatic turn after detectives reopened the investigation based on fresh intelligence.
The renewed probe led to the suspect’s arrest and eventual confession.
Police say the suspect allegedly killed his cousin at night and buried him in a shallow grave within his compound in an attempt to cover his tracks.
Shockingly, he is said to have actively joined family members and neighbours in searching for the victim, successfully masking the crime for about eight months.
The breakthrough came when the suspect led investigators to the burial site.
The body has since been exhumed and deposited for forensic examination, while the suspect remains in custody pending arraignment.
The police have reiterated their commitment to justice, urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities promptly, emphasising that timely information is crucial in combating crime.
