As regional blocs shift from ambition to measurable impact, ECOWAS is sharpening its tools to ensure its long-term vision delivers real results.

The ECOWAS Directorate of Strategic Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation has launched a five-day high-level workshop to develop a reference sheet of core indicators for its Vision 2050 agenda, in a move aimed at strengthening accountability and tracking progress across the region.

The workshop, held from 23 to 27 March 2026 at Zuma Rock Resort in Niger State, brings together representatives from ECOWAS institutions, directorates and specialised agencies to refine how success under the Vision will be measured.

At the heart of the engagement is the development of comprehensive profiles for each core indicator, an effort designed to provide a clear, standardised framework for monitoring implementation and evaluating outcomes across ECOWAS’ strategic priorities.

Officials say the initiative marks a critical step towards transforming Vision 2050 from a policy blueprint into a results-driven roadmap, ensuring that progress is not only planned but consistently measured and verified.

By strengthening its monitoring and evaluation architecture, ECOWAS aims to boost transparency, improve decision-making and enhance the overall effectiveness of its programmes across member states.

The outcome of the workshop is expected to lay the groundwork for a more data-driven and accountable regional integration process as the bloc pushes towards its long-term development goals.
