“We Haven’t Failed”: FG Defends Security Agencies, Vows Stronger Protection For Nigerians

In a climate of heightened security concerns, the Federal Government has moved to reassure Nigerians that efforts to safeguard lives and property are not only ongoing but intensifying.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has declared that Nigeria’s security agencies are working relentlessly to prevent further attacks and strengthen national safety.

Speaking during an interview with the BBC, Idris dismissed suggestions that the country’s security architecture had failed, insisting instead that while challenges remain, progress is evident.

“I don’t think they failed. I think that more work needs to be done,” he said, emphasising that operatives are “working around the clock” to ensure such incidents do not recur.

Referencing the recent attack in Maiduguri, the Minister noted that the city has experienced considerable improvements in peace and stability over time, attributing this to sustained government interventions and reforms.

He further stressed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reform agenda is firmly focused on protecting citizens and preventing future security breaches.

On international matters, Idris highlighted Nigeria’s strategic role in global energy security, particularly amid rising tensions in the Middle East.

He reaffirmed the country’s readiness to contribute to global stability, stating that “the world needs oil, and Nigeria is there.”

The Minister also underscored the significance of President Tinubu’s ongoing engagements abroad, describing them as a reflection of Nigeria’s strengthening diplomatic, cultural, and economic ties, especially with the United Kingdom.

According to him, the administration’s reforms are already yielding positive results, enhancing Nigeria’s global image and attracting international recognition.

He reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to deepening reforms, bolstering security, and ensuring that Nigerians can live and work in peace.
