Bianca Ojukwu Rings NGX Bell, Urges Women To Lead Global Transformation

As conversations around gender equality grow louder worldwide, Nigeria’s capital market is increasingly being positioned as a platform to empower women economically.

Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, has praised the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX) for promoting inclusion and opportunities for women through the capital market.

Speaking on Tuesday at the NGX trading floor in Lagos while ringing the ceremonial bell to mark International Women’s Day, the minister said the next generation of women holds the potential to drive global transformation.

The event, themed “Ring the Bell for Gender Equality, Rights, Justice, Action for All Women and Girls,” drew prominent women leaders including the wife of the Imo State Governor, Mrs Chioma Uzodimma, media entrepreneur Mo Abudu, and Nollywood star Funke Akindele.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu described the moment as deeply personal, noting that her late father-in-law, Chief Louis Odumegwu Ojukwu, was one of the founding presidents of the Nigerian Stock Exchange.

She stressed that when women thrive in business, finance, diplomacy and governance, institutions grow stronger and societies become more prosperous.

President of NGX Group, Temi Popoola, also called for greater female participation in the capital market, noting that empowering women entrepreneurs with access to finance will strengthen Nigeria’s economy.
