Crime Correspondents Hail Super Cop, Disu, As He Assumes Office As Nigeria’s 23rd Indigenous IGP
At a time when Nigeria’s internal security architecture faces evolving threats and heightened public scrutiny, the appointment of a new Inspector General of Police often signals more than a change of guard, it represents renewed hope for reform and professionalism.
The Crime Correspondents Association of Nigeria (CCAN) has congratulated the acting Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, on his appointment as the 23rd Indigenous IGP of the Nigeria Police Force.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the association described Disu’s elevation as well-deserved, citing his years of professionalism, diligence and leadership across several strategic commands.
Disu, popularly referred to as a “Super Cop” by admirers, previously served in the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), as Principal Staff Officer to former IGP Kayode Egbetokun, Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory, as well as Assistant Inspector General at the Alagbon Annex.
He is also a black belt in Judo.
CCAN expressed confidence that Disu’s operational experience, academic background and longstanding rapport with the media would strengthen collaboration between the police and journalists.
The association said it expects the existing synergy to be sustained and deepened, particularly in promoting openness, inclusivity, loyalty and timely communication.
The group pledged continued support to the Nigeria Police Force and its spokesperson’s office in shaping accurate narratives around crime-fighting efforts and internal security management.
While offering prayers for wisdom and strength as he assumes office, CCAN said it looks forward to working closely with the new police boss in the service of the nation.
