FRSC-NIMC Pact Targets Safer Roads, Stronger National Security Through Data Integration
In a country battling identity fraud, vehicle-related crime and road safety challenges, stronger data sharing between public agencies is fast becoming a security tool, not just a bureaucratic upgrade.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) have agreed to deepen collaboration on identity management and data integration to strengthen national security and improve road safety outcomes.
At a high-level meeting in Abuja, FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, said robust data harmonisation across government agencies is critical to building a secure and intelligent nation where individuals can be properly identified.
He described credible identity management as central to effective law enforcement, crash reduction strategies and national planning.
Mohammed announced that the FRSC will enforce the National Identification Number (NIN) as a mandatory requirement for vehicle registration and the acquisition of the National Driver’s Licence, a move he said would sanitise the motoring space and improve traceability within the road transport sector.
He also commended NIMC for strengthening Nigeria’s identity database and called for FRSC’s inclusion in the Commission’s Annual Identity Forum, noting the Corps’ frontline role in driver licensing and vehicle registration.
Responding, NIMC Director-General, Engr. Adesoye Coker, pledged the Commission’s full support for data integration initiatives with FRSC, particularly those linked to crash reduction and national security.
She praised ongoing reforms within the Corps and said closer institutional synergy would deliver far-reaching benefits for governance and public safety.
The partnership signals a broader government push to build a harmonised, technology-driven identity architecture aimed at improving accountability, operational efficiency and safety on Nigerian roads.
