CTA Commends Peaceful Conduct Of Anambra Governorship Election, Notes Logistical Gaps
…Says heavy security presence ensured calm atmosphere across 21 LGAs
In a country where elections are often fraught with tension, the Anambra State governorship poll of 8th November 2025 stood out for its relative calm and orderliness.
The Centre for Transparency Advocacy (CTA) has lauded the peaceful conduct of the exercise, even as it highlighted a few logistical challenges and areas for improvement.
In its preliminary statement released in Awka, CTA noted that the election, one of Nigeria’s off-season polls, was held across the 21 local government areas of the state under a generally peaceful atmosphere, thanks to the heavy deployment of police and other security personnel.
The organisation said it deployed 50 trained election observers across the state to monitor the conduct of the process.
According to CTA, its observers confirmed that voting took place as scheduled, with most polling units opening on time and election materials arriving in good condition.
However, the group recalled that in its pre-election assessment, it had raised concerns about the preparedness of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), logistics arrangements, security coordination, and the conduct of political actors in ensuring a free, fair, credible, and inclusive election.
While acknowledging that the overall environment remained peaceful, CTA said it would continue to study developments and release a comprehensive post-election report with detailed findings and recommendations.
