Troops Repel Drone-Assisted Terrorist Attack On Borno Base, Neutralise Scores
In a renewed show of resilience against insurgency in the North East, Nigerian troops have successfully foiled a coordinated terrorist attack on a Forward Operating Base (FOB) at Kangar, Mallam Fatori, Borno State.
The assault, launched in the early hours of Tuesday, 4 November 2025, by Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters, featured the use of armed drones and mortar fire.
According to a military statement, troops of Operation Hadin Kai under the Joint Task Force North East repelled the attack after a fierce exchange of fire, demonstrating what the command described as “exceptional gallantry and tactical superiority.”
Reinforced by a main force from Sector 3 and supported by close air cover from Nigerien fighter aircraft, the Nigerian troops held their ground, overwhelming the attackers and forcing them to flee into the Tumbuns waterways.
A post-battle sweep of the area confirmed the neutralisation of six terrorists and the recovery of weapons, including five AK-47 rifles, five RPG bombs, armed drone explosives, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.
Follow-up airstrikes by the Nigerian and Nigerien Air Forces reportedly neutralised additional insurgents as they retreated.
A few soldiers and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force sustained minor injuries during the encounter and are said to be in stable condition after receiving medical attention.
The Military High Command has commended the troops for their bravery and professionalism, assuring Nigerians of its unwavering commitment to restoring lasting peace and stability in the North East through sustained operations.
