Brig Gen Samaila Uba Assumes Duty As New Director Of Defence Information
In a move aimed at strengthening military communication and public engagement, Brigadier General Samaila Mohammed Uba has officially assumed duty as the new Director of Defence Information at the Defence Headquarters, Abuja.
The change of leadership follows the recent reorganisation within the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
At a brief handover ceremony held on Tuesday, 4 November 2025, Brig Gen Uba took over from his predecessor, Brig Gen Tukur Gusau, pledging to anchor his tenure on four strategic priorities, unity of purpose, timeliness and transparency, digital innovation, and media collaboration.
He commended Brig Gen Gusau for his achievements and contributions during his tenure, wishing him success in his future endeavours.
A seasoned officer and communication strategist, Brig Gen Uba brings with him a wealth of experience spanning over three decades in the Nigerian Army. Born on 1 July 1968 in Tudun Wada, Kano State, he holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication from Bayero University, Kano, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Public Administration from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration, and a Master’s in Strategic and Development Studies from the Bangladesh University of Professionals.
Throughout his career, Brig Gen Uba has held several key positions, including Commander of the 401 Special Forces Brigade in Borno State, Deputy Director of Peacekeeping Operations, and Director of Personnel Services at Army Headquarters.
He also served as Chief Instructor at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, and as Public Relations Officer to a former Chief of Army Staff.
A fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Brig Gen Uba is highly decorated, with honours such as the Grand Service Star, Distinguished Service Star, and the Chief of Army Staff Commendation Award Medal.
Known for his professionalism and intellectual depth, Brig Gen Uba is expected to drive a new era of openness and synergy between the military and the media.
