ECOWAS Vice-President Calls For Stronger Support To Gender Centre During Dakar Visit
Efforts to strengthen gender equality within the ECOWAS region received a boost as the Vice-President of the ECOWAS Commission, Mrs Damtien L. Tchintchibidja, paid a working visit to the ECOWAS Centre for Gender Development (CCDG) in Dakar, Senegal.
The visit, which took place on the sidelines of her high-level mission on the establishment of Senegal’s National Early Warning and Response Centre, highlighted the need for greater institutional and financial backing to advance the Centre’s mandate.
Welcomed by Mrs Sandra Oulaté Fattoh, Director of the CCDG, the Vice-President was briefed on pressing challenges facing the Centre, including inadequate human resources and limited budgetary allocations.
In her response, Mrs Tchintchibidja pledged support to address these issues and urged the Centre to submit an official request to facilitate the recruitment of key personnel, particularly an Accounting Assistant.
She further emphasised the importance of aligning staff deployment with the Centre’s operational priorities to enhance efficiency.
Reaffirming ECOWAS’ commitment to promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment, the Vice-President called for stronger collaboration between men and women to create an enabling environment for social transformation and sustainable development across West Africa.
