In a rare blend of celebration and service, the Anambra State Police Command on Friday honoured 14 newly promoted officers while unveiling a newly renovated Commissioner’s Hall, an act that underscores the growing partnership between law enforcement and traditional institutions.
The event, held at the Police Headquarters in Amawbia, Awka South Local Government Area, was presided over by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, who described the day as one of pride, progress, and partnership.
The renovation of the Commissioner’s Hall was made possible through the generosity of Otonye Efebo (Shidi VII), the Amadabo of Shidi Ama Twon, Brass, Bayelsa State, an initiative hailed as a testament to community-driven policing.
In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the CP commended the Amadabo for his patriotic gesture, describing it as “a symbol of trust and collaboration between traditional leadership and the Nigeria Police Force.”
While decorating the newly promoted officers, CP Orutugu urged them to see their elevation not as a reward for past effort alone, but as “a call to greater discipline, professionalism, and renewed dedication to duty.”
He emphasised that the renovated hall would serve as a modern facility for strategy sessions, capacity building, and operational reviews to improve security management across the state.
In his remarks, the Amadabo of Shidi Ama praised CP Orutugu’s leadership style and commitment to proactive policing, pledging continued support for initiatives that foster peace and stability in Anambra.
Among the decorated officers were CSP Ikpeama Joy Chidimma (DPO, Main Market Division), CSP Asso Emmanuel Agbuka (DPO, Amanuke Division), CSP Nuhu Azeez (OC, Special Anti-Cultism Squad, Obosi), CSP Onyilo Thaddeus (OC, Special Anti-Cultism Squad, Onitsha), and ten other senior officers.
The ceremony featured emotional moments as family members joined in the decoration, followed by the official unveiling of the refurbished hall and a group photograph capturing the day’s triumph.
