Global Youth Mark 80 Years Since WWII Victory With Call For Peace and Unity
Young people from across the world have issued a joint appeal for unity, peace, and sustainable development as the international community marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War and the founding of the United Nations.
In the World Youth Peace Initiative released on 15 August, youth representatives emphasised the urgent need to defend peace, promote mutual understanding among civilisations, foster win-win cooperation, combat climate change, and ensure technology serves the common good.
They urged young people everywhere to draw lessons from history, oppose war and violence, and safeguard the UN-centred international order.
The declaration also called for deeper cultural exchange to strengthen harmony among nations, and active participation in implementing the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Marking the milestone, the statement warned that the world stands “at a crossroads of unity or division” and challenged the new generation to carry forward the spirit of solidarity shown eight decades ago.
“Eighty years ago, our predecessors illuminated darkness with unity. Eighty years later, it is up to us—the youth—to define the future through action,” the initiative declared.
