Lady Obareki Donates Maternity Kits To Expectant Mothers In Ikot Abasi

As part of activities marking the 2025 World Breastfeeding Day, Lady Helen Obareki, Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady in Akwa Ibom, has donated maternity kits to pregnant women in Ikot Abasi Local Government Area.

The event, organised by the Ibom Open Maternity Project (IOMP) in collaboration with the Carelife Foundation, was held at Primary School, Ikot Akan, under the theme “Strengthening Local and Sustainable Systems to Promote Effective Breastfeeding for Healthier Mothers and Children.”

Lady Obareki, who also chairs the Board of Trustees of the Golden Initiative for All (GIFA), described the gesture as part of a sustained intervention to support expectant mothers with essential care during pregnancy.

Represented by Pastor Anne Abraham, Special Assistant to the Governor on General Duties, she emphasised the vital role of mothers in raising healthy future generations and condemned all forms of gender-based violence, warning that offenders would face the full weight of the law.

The wife of the Ikot Abasi Local Government Chairman, Mrs Ime Essien, commended Lady Obareki for her timely support and urged women to prepare themselves emotionally, financially, and psychologically for childbirth.

Beneficiaries and community leaders hailed the First Lady Designate as a champion of maternal health, describing pregnant women as “living vessels carrying the next generation of leaders.”
