Media Group Applauds NCC For Transparent Promotion Exercise
A media advocacy organisation, Volunteer Media Advocacy for Accountable Leadership, has commended the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for what it described as a professional, transparent, and fair conduct of its recent promotion examinations.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the group praised the Commission for strictly adhering to public service rules and merit-based principles during the exercise, noting that the process reflected the highest standards of accountability.
Signed by its National Coordinator, Sir Aminu Augustine, the statement revealed that a thorough review of the promotion exercise showed that promotions were granted solely based on performance and the availability of slots within the Commission’s manpower structure.
“Not all who passed were promoted, especially where vacancies were no longer available. This is consistent with what the Public Service Rules stipulate,” the group explained.
The group also highlighted the diverse composition of the interview panels, which included representatives from all six geopolitical zones, external observers, and officials from the Federal Character Commission (FCC).
In a further nod to transparency, the group applauded the NCC for providing candidates with individual score breakdowns—a move it described as rare and commendable in the public sector.
Calling on other government agencies to take a cue from the NCC, the group urged greater transparency and fairness in internal human resource processes.
“All indications point to a process that prioritised fairness, objectivity, and due process. The NCC has set a worthy example,” the group concluded.
